This long-lasting natural product is quarried in the eastern United States and abroad.  One of the most expensive roofing materials, it is considered to be a once in a life-time selection. With periodic maintenance, slate can last 100 years or more and is aesthetically appealing as well.

This natural roof covering has long been a popular choice for homeowners. Shingles are machine sawn, while shakes are hand-split and are available in a medium or heavy thickness. Fire concerns and our area's dry climate however, have limited the use of these products in recent years. Although the City of Boulder does not allow cedar shake roofs any longer, Boulder County & other municipalities allow Class C fire-retardant cedar shake installations.
