This popular product offers affordability and variety as well as resistance to wind, fire and in some cases, hail*. Consisting of a fiberglass mat, layers of ashpalt and granules for color and UV protection, most all shingles today earn a UL Class A fire rating. This is the highest fire rating available and is now required in many communities.
Laminated shingles, differing from single layer 3-tabs or T-locks, are often referred to as 'dimensionals' or 'architectural' shingles. These heavier weight products come with 30, 40 and 50+ year manufacturer warranties and offer a variety of styles. Cut-outs, extra layers and shadow lines provide a thicker and more random appearance on some, while different shapes are meant to simulate slate on others. Many of these products are made specifically for high-wind areas, with applications and warranties for up to 130mph.
* Impact resistant roofing products, those meeting the UL2218 standard, are available in a variety of materials, including asphalt composition, molded plastic, metal and stone coated metal. It is important to note that there is no roofing material that is 'hail proof', rather the products are considered hail resistant. Some insurance companies including State Farm and Liberty Mutual offer discounts on homeowner premiums with the installation of this type of product. Be sure to check with your agent.

Tile is an attractive and durable option for homeowners today. Made of concrete or clay, it is available in a variety of colors and styles, including shake, slate and spanish mission. If you are replacing an older roof with tile, you will need to verify that your home can structurally hold the weight of this type of roof system.
This natural roof covering, usually made from cedar, has long been a popular choice for homeowners. Shingles are machine-sawn, while shakes are hand-split and are available in a medium or heavy thickness. Fire concerns and our area's dry climate, however, have limited the use of these products in recent years.
The City of Boulder does not allow new shake/shingle installations and has mandated the replacement of all wood roofs by the year 2014.
Boulder County allows the installation of shakes that have been treated with a fire retardant material to meet UL Class C fire rating in the plains and Class A in the foothills.

This long-lasting natural product is quarried in the eastern United States and abroad. One of the most expensive roofing materials, it is considered to be a once in a life-time selection. With regular maintenance, slate can last 100 years or more and is aesthetically appealing as well. |

EPDM membrane, often referred to simply as rubber, is commonly installed on both residential and commercial projects. Used under decks, pavers, or as the roof itself, this system is time tested and is our preferred product for most low-slope applications. Tapered and rigid insulation can be added to improve roof drainage, as well as to increase insulative values. Thermoplastic single-ply roof systems (TPOs) are gaining in popularity due to their excellent reflective properties and energy efficiency. Modified bitumen, an asphalt based material, is another alternative for low-slope roofs.
